WINDSOR Chess Club IN PERSON AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT Fridays: 3:40-4:40pm Learn pins, forks, double attacks and checkmating moves! Learn thinking skills that help in school and in sports! The program is led by National Chess Champion Gauri Manoj, ranked among the top chess players in the country. PARENTS: Why chess? Chess is a powerful tool that enhances children's brains for math, science, and creative thinking, all while they enjoy the game. It teaches rational decision-making and empowers children by strengthening executive functioning skills, such as impulse control, planning, and focus. According to Dr. Bill Hudenko, Child Psychologist and Professor at Dartmouth, “Playing chess necessitates the successful use of problem-solving, planning, and reasoning skills—core elements of healthy executive functioning.” These skills are essential for academic success and future workplace achievements. Our program strongly encourages parents to play chess with their children at home! When chess is introduced both at school and at home, it becomes a fun, natural way to prepare children for success in academics and life. Kids will be awarded prizes based on the amount of points earned thru work at home playing games, solving puzzles, and on tournament play in class. We reward hard work!
